I think they should make drugs legal. In turn they can pose a high tax on it and control it themselves, or do something of the sort. Cause all these "don't do drugs, kids" campaigns and such aren't doing much from what I see, it's the same thing everyday and getting worse. As I said, my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Karri, they will still want to try them, but it would be harder, I think, to actually gain access to it. Like how the Eighteenth Amendment was, is really, with the whole "prohibiting alcohol" thing. Mafias came up, people were still getting it, but in a worse way ( illegally, etc. ) and then of course came the Twenty-first Amendment which repealed the Nineteenth. *shrugs* But anyway, I really do think it'd do good. Wrong. Doing so would only be feeding the coffers of illegal organizations like the mafia and an equal, if not greater, amount of people would suffer from the physilogical repercussions of substance abuse.

How do you think people start smoking? By walking into the closest drugstore and suddenly deciding "Well, I think I'm in the mood to begin smoking today"? Hardly. The majority of smokers all started sometime in elementary or high school... because all their friends were doing it, or because it was rebelious and cool.

These people keep smoking because of the cravings. Do you really think something as trivial as an imposed government ban is going to stop these people from satisfying their cravings? Time to turn to illegal trade! Buying drugs from dealers is so easy it's less of a hassle to call your pusher and tell him to deliver an ounce than to walk all the way to the store and purchase over the counter.

The movies are quite deceitful, where dealers are always waiting in the alleys and whatnot. In fact, most pushers in my part of the city just look like your average emo kid. Except they're exceptionally wealthy.

By legalizing marijuana, the government will actually have CONTROL over the market. As a consumer, would you rather buy weed of unknown origins and composition from a delapidated kid or from a regulated governmental source? Plus, the government totally relies on voters to keep the current party in power, so smoking bad seeds that make you want to puke will be a thing of the past.

Also, this could be a significant source of income for the state, if the sale of marijuana is taxed properly. In truth, the boon will be for everyone except businesspeople with questionable ethics.

Health issues are hardly a concern, seeing as many studies have shown that marijuana is in fact ten times less noxious than cigarettes are.

All in all, with a few laws in place preventing its abuse in tacitly dangerous situations, this could very well work out for everyone. (No smoking before or while driving, etc. But, even then, studies have also shown that an individual is four times more likely to cause an accident while under the influence of alcohol than of marijuana.)

Alcohol is a depressant; it slows down your system and reflexes. Marijuana is a perturbator; it only blocks a minority of the signals sent from neuron to neuron. In Layman's terms, a drunk driver is worse than a high one.

I'm not sure I believe that. It's never happened to me or any of my friends, and such a situation has never been heard of in our pot-smoking community.

Either way, you mustn't be very experienced with drinking. People pass out from getting drunk too. Hell, some even land in comas. And it happens a lot more frequently with alcohol than it would with pot.
