One thing I've noticed in a few forums I visit is the feature of a Marketplace section, where users can post things they're selling, or things they wish to buy.

Being that this is an Anime forum I'm sure there are plenty of people who have Mangas and anime DVDs they wouldn't mind getting rid of, and anyone with a little extra cash and a Paypal account would be glad to take it off their hands.

I think it would be cool addition to this place. :3

I'm guessing the reason it's an uncommon feature is the complexity of the legal matters the site owners would have to go through and deal with almost daily. Sounds like an interesting idea though, I'm sure some people here would find it useful.

Typically there are never any legal matters involving the site owner(s) or moderators because the trades are done between User and User, so the admins hold no responsibility at all if someone's package gets lost in the mail. A disclaimer sticky stating that wouldn't hurt. :)

Well I have been part of forums were this has been done many times it is really comes down to how much do you trust the guy. But i think a good idea is just letting people know what you are selling ebay or something like that.

Well, I've been to a Tech forum where they do this. I actually got a game through it. The issue is that you're really not protected against these purchases if they are fraudulent. A lot of the people on the Tech Forum had their own online store so it was mostly all legit. So, it would have to be something that we cannot be legally responsible for.

So basically what faizboy mentioned about actually trusting whomever you're buying from, since you're pretty much screwed if they decide to rip you off.

Exactly. Though there are people who just have to own the disks and cases and whatnot (I have a friend like that, suffice to say he doesn't have much money now). The same people that buy music CDs for twenty dollars.

Lawl, yeah, I know what you mean. My girlfriend's one of those purist types (but she only purchases when she knows it's a really good price). I just found it amusing when I read that line.

With the marketplace thing, there's that issue of trust. Another forum I don't frequent as much nowadays had it set up where other members had to vouch for the seller that he/she's a trustworthy person before the buyer even considered. But on top of that, the forum had a member who worked in a govt department, so he had some 1337 database which he could use to track people down and get people's info (like, address, names, phone numbers, back account, etc, it's pretty 1337), so relief factor went down a tad bit.

The only CD I ever bought was listened to daily for several weeks, then everyone said they were emo, so I threw out the CD and haven't bought one since.

Haha, yeah mine too. Tried to show her how to use Frostwire, she picked it up really quickly, then refused to download anything.

That sounds like a really good method of keeping people honest. Is it really worth scamming someone when they have your home address? Questionable whether or not his method was legal though :lmao:

That's not such a great idea in my oppinion...This is only a site to chat...If you ant to get a marketplace and earn points and crap just ask around for a good website like that.

Questionable whether or not his method was legal thoughIt's more of a reassuring thing for the buyers, like, helping out a fellow NZer if they got scammed. He doesn't flaunt people's personal info around the net or anything like some kind of stalker.

heres what a website i go to has to say

*someone* is not responsible for any transactions, or any actions of it's members in this forum whatsoever!

Anyone choosing to conduct any sort of transaction with another member on *someone* does so at their own risk and expense.

As individuals, you need to take responsibility for your own actions, and you need to take responsibility for the fact you are dealing with strangers on the internet. *someone* is not a professional Sales service.. and is provided free and without any kind of warranty. We also will not ban people because you claim they ripped you off. Do NOT send the the "evidence" as we simply do not have the time, manpower, or will to follow through on your complaints. We have no intention of mediating any more disputes.

If you are ripped off, the only thing you are allowed to do on *someone* is to report it in the thread of the seller/buyer/trader ONCE. Alternatively you can make a note in your signature stating your grievance with the user. What you cannot do is spam other *someone* forums with your complaints. Do not make threads complaining about transaction that have gone bad. Do NOT contact staff complaining that a user has ripped you off. Do NOT make new threads in this or any other *someone* forum complaining about the "user" that ripped you off.

*someone* Does not recommend or endorse the use of the *someone* BST forums unless you are willing to take responsibility for your own actions, and you assume all risk. We do however recommend that people who wish to assume that risk should research the people they are dealing with, and alternatively search out and use professional Sales forums.(many of which offer the services and customer protection you keep asking us for here on *someone* but will NOT get here!)

People who continue to ignore the clearly posted rules and post complaints all over the place despite moderators and staff closing and moving them.. expect two things to happen.. the person complaining (and not necessarily the accused) will have their account closed, and that BST will get closed altogether. *someone* has already dedicated too much time and human resources to maintaining this area of the site. If it continues to be a problem we will close it.

Also.. do not ASK for any expansion of the BST type forums as we have no intention of adding forums to this area, or to expand the services provided.

Feel free to LIST your something or somthing item for Buy, Sell or Trade. others can feel free to offer any number of legal items (under the *someone* rules of course) or cash in trade. What people cannot do, is start new thread, and offer NON something items. Period. No new threads with people offering non-sometthing stuff.

UPDATE:Getestore and Similar “store” / commissioned pre-made store type concepts – No Commission Based Sales. Period. This is pretty much a BST and BST360 specific rule. Any products offered for sale should be in direct possession by the seller. From now on, and new post in any of the BST sales type forums on *someone*, must list the products and merchandise in their entirety in the post on *someone*, or don’t bother posting at all on our site. To be perfectly blunt, *someone* is not here for you to make money. *someone* sponsors are the only exception to this rule. The items listed in any sales thread or post on *someone*, must actually be in the possession of the person(s) listing it for sale or trade. Selling items for a 3rd party business via a commission based "Ready Made Internet Store" does not constitute owning the stock, and will result in a closure of the thread, and possibly the account. We want members to be directly accountable for any actions/tractions they conduct on our site.

UPDATE JAN 2007: Do not start threads asking "what can I get for 5$, 10$ etc" as staff will close them and make a ban req on your account. when making a new post, either Offer to sell a product, or trade a product. If you want to buy something.. go into an existing thread and make an offer on a product or service. DO NOT MAKE NEW THREADS ASKING WHAT YOU CAN GET FOR $5 bucks etc.

Do Not Offer to Buy, Sell, or Trade GameFly Subscriptions. Members can get their own subscriptions.

UPDATE: *someone* will not DELETE threads on demand. Even in light of the Raids on US shops. You can request it be removed/made invisible, however, we will keep it open for 30 days if you do so, allowing those you have serviced can comment, communicate, and / or complain or raise issues. We can make some requested edits though of info you posted, however, we will keep it on file. Note, deleting or removing your thread at this point is too little, too late. the authorities have that info already, and worse, every search engine and spider crawler on the net has it archived.

and i think its a good idea and we should like do the same thing
