The sand villagers were jerks to Gaara and were scared of him.
His own aunt tried to kill him. All that pain and neglect was probably what caused him to grow up so corrupt and homicidal.

im gonna give a description of them
Gaara, a ninja with the beast Shukaku in him, he uses sand techniques and is crazy (my opinion)
Temari, a kunoichi (female ninja), uses wind elemental techniques, and she's supposedly a relative of Gaara and Kankuro (don't know where that came from)
Kankuro, a ninja who controls a puppet thats tied on his back
The Kazekage, umm...the sand villages' leader er something
