So I was IMing as usual when my friend IM'd me saying something along the lines of "Can I put this picture of us on my Myspace?" with a link. I clicked the link because it had a photobucket link. . .a pop-up box that said either to run or save to computer came up, and I, thinking that it meant open the picture or save it, saved it to my computer. I went to the folder I saved it in, and realized that it wasn't a picture. Then, automatically, a bunch of IMs kept popping up with people saying "NO!" or "WHAT THE HECK?", etc. I was utterly confused, so I asked a few people what was going on and they told me that my computer sent the same thing. . .one of my friends told me that it was a virus that eventually slow down my computer/destroy it. I was pretty pissed. I was just on when it started sending messages again. I think its an ongoing chain of viruses. . .so I guess my computer, and many of my friends computers are pretty much fucked.

Lesson learned. Unless you really know what you're doing on a computer, never click links you're not aware of.

Thanks so much for your concern, but I'm afraid the future is grim. [I'm always in a poetic mood when I'm awfully depressed. . .it annoys most of my freinds]

I work at a computer shop. I'm a technician. You have a virus? Uninstall Norton if you have it, and get AVG, AdAware and Spybot search and destroy. Run all of them a few times and update them. That should help.

We have all of them and we've tried just bringing the programs up, but my computer is so slow that it won't. We've only tried this on one computer user account, so I think we might have more luck on another. Just maybe.

If you wanna roll over and say "OH NOE, I"M FUCKED! THERE"S NOTHING I CAN DOOOO....".

Stand up and TRY to find a solution to this.

EDIT: K, I see you're trying nvm, lol

I know you don't want to hear this, but formating the C: drive may be your only option if the PC is too slow to Google up help/do ANYTHING

How much RAM do you have? that may be the issue.

Do this:

Go to the start menu, hit "run" and then type in the box, "msconfig"

You'll get a window called Microsoft Windows Configuration.

Now click the tab all the way to the very right. In this tab unclick everything. Make sure everything in this tab is unchecked. Then hit ok and restart the computer when it tells you to.

Let the computer restart and then run those programs. It should work now. When you're done you can go back to that same menu again and reselect only the programs you know that "need" to start with the computer like your anti-virus programs and video display settings. Anything else really isn't essential.

maybe recommend starting in SafeMode as well?

Hmm. . .it seems that in the last 5 minutes, I've slowly been able to care less about the problem I'm in because I'm preoccupied. Haha! Thanks Anime Talk!

:lmao: whoever would seriously just sit there has no sense of urgency.

Formatting my C: drive, eh? I'll keep this in mind. Thanks!

You guys are too great. *hug* I have yet to try out all of your solutions, but I'm excited to get to it.

Shyahhh, but you'll lose all your precious PC memories, pics, music, and pr0n :lmao:, having to start all over, but can feel good to have the pc back to normal :p (ofcourse, if it's like a BADAsS virus it might not fix it completely.

Ooooohhhh I guess theres a bad side to everything in life. As to pics an music, I'd def. die. As to pr0n, :lmao: hahahahhaha no. But I'm not being sarcastic on that one. I hope i don't have that bad of a virus. Hmmm. . .I guess I'll get working on it in all the ways that don't involve me losing all of my music. or pictures. or stories.

Yeah, use the format as a last resort. Including after the format, you'll have to reinstall Windows XP again (ZOMG I WANT VISTA *drools* ...*cough* errm sorry

Hey what kinda pc you got?

I got a Dell that has it's own startover thing, where it'll whipe everything clean and start up like new, without having to reinstall Windows. I think some new Compaq Presarios have it too :P

oh that really really sucks. I remember being sent one of those. always decline on anything like that.

Use external hard drive or usb drive to transfer the files you REALLY WANT!

If all else fails, wipe the drive and take the loss as is (before your computer goes down the shitter more)

yea do that^^

You might wanna go ahead, right now, and backup your good stuff on some CDs, USB drives/HDs etc, before you end up not being able to boot up Windows at all (it's happened to me on a laptop, sad story :(

And, if you dont reply in the next 3 days..... YeAh... we'll know what happened, and the funeral arrangements will be made

lol.. so true...its takes like 3 days to wipe a computer and redo everything on it

Siziol
02-10-2007, 05:51 AM
meh, well depending on the computer it should only take a few hours to do an initial (built in) sys wipe (through f10 or f12 on the windows startup screen.)

But a Binary Wipe (which would ensure your computers future safety) would be better, yet I am unsure of how long it would take.

Recovering such files (depending on how you saved them), could take anywhere between 5 minutes and 5 days. Depending on whether you saved x^25*y^43463 songs on x amount of CD's. Or whether its on a 200 gig ext. drive that you can just plug and transfer.

There's your problem. You have a Dell. :P

But really, it's a simple fix. As Narkumi also suggested, start in Safemode, but then again this won't do any good as the programs you'll want to run to get rid of the virus cannot be run in safe mode cuz they're 32 bit. :D

Honestly though, if you want some help. I repair computers for a living.

Anastashia Sage

okay now i can understand that but what Siziol said is still greek to me.

I am alive!!! XD

We restarted the computer and it allowed us to run a few virus scans; we're not sure if its like completely gone, but my computer works and thats all i'm really concerned about.

Hah. A funeral will be unneccesary(sp?) [ohdang, right? :P]

and i actually understand what Sizol is saying [wow.]

Well, we tried virus scanning like right there and then when my parents were on the comppie [hmm i really need to get rid of this stupid nickname] but it froze up. We did the good old Control + Alt + Delete, and we got it back to a stable[ish] condition. We tried the virus scanning again, and it repeated the same thing. So we got it back in stable condition and attempted to shut it down/restart it from the start menu. Nothing happened. We restarted it, yadda yadda yadda. . .you know the story from here. And we did let it sit overnight. . .heh, it needs sleep to!!! lawl. hmmmm.

Oh, and no problem Akito!
